I never before thought of roadside vegetable stands as being among Leviathan’s ankle-biters, but I do now. And what’s good about it is that some of their patrons tend to be your organic, fruity type of people who tend left in politics, i.e. the ones who otherwise tend to regulate all person-to-person human interactions out of existence.
I got to thinking about it because of this article in Lancaster Farming about the Farm-to-Consumer Legal Defense Fund. It is helping to defend farmers who sell directly to consumers, including those who sell raw milk directly to consumers.
At a forum, Pennsylvania state senator Mike Folmer said,
It’s not unconstitutional, the ability for people to make some product and let a willing consumer engage in a transaction for that product. This is the free market! That’s what makes the United States and the commonwealth great.
I remember back during the late 1960s when we would buy milk directly from a local farmer. We’d take our pail down to their milk room and use a dipper to take milk out of the bulk tank. Our neighbor farmers insisted that we be careful and sanitary about it, because any problems found during an inspection could be very expensive for them.
But the important thing (aside from the economic and health benefits) is that we were all engaging in a subversive activity. And now I see that others are doing so, too.
Here’s wishing them well.
Here's a small ankle-bite from the Olympics.
According to Polish pro-Tibet activist group The Other Space Foundation, Polish weightlifter Szymon Kolecki “shaved his head in a gesture of solidarity with Tibetan monks,” before receiving a silver medal in his event.

This is a refreshing change: an industry unconsolidation. Ebay's monopoly hold is loosening, and smaller competitors are gaining instead of being gobbled up. Bad news for Leviathan.
I don't know if I should really give these guys an ankle-biter award or not. (WSJ editorial here and letters here.) For one thing, the philanthropic community is a lot bigger than ankle-high. And I usually think of it as a part of Leviathan rather than in ...
I never expected to give John McCain an ankle-biter award any more than I'd expect to vote for him, but here it is. He wants everyone to have the same tax treatment on health insurance. As it now stands people like me who work for large employers get our health ...
I learned about Nudge from The Weekly Standard. It seems British Conservatives are using the technique as part of their new way of doing things. One could say it's almost Burkean in its approach to government. Barak Obama is said to be interested, too.
Here is a ...
Mike Adams is starting to get the idea: "A lawsuit a day keeps the leftist at bay." It looks like this National Association of Scholars might have a whole bunch of ankle-biters in its ranks.
I may never get around to watching any of his productions, and for all I know Alastair Fothergill is one of those angry Democrats who votes the straight leftwing totalitarian line. But after reading this article at the WSJ, I'm going to give him a Leviathan Ankle-Biter award ...
One of Ezra Levant's supporters is disappointed with Canadian apathy over the human rights abuses of Canada's Human Rights Commissions. Not even comedian Guy Earle seems to understand what is happening to him.
If Levant and his supporters think it's hard to get Canadians interested in what's happening, they ...
